Ingredients
2 New York strip steaks, boneless (or sirloin or chuck. this can also be done with fish, chicken breasts, or boneless pork chops)
1/2 cup jack daniels whiskey
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
fresh ground pepper
N/A marinade:
1/3 cup orange juice
3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
fresh ground pepper
1/2 tsp maple syrup
Halal/non-alcoholic: use spicy mustard or yellow mustard as dijon is not halal.
Directions
Place the steaks in a large pan and set it aside, covered.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the whiskey, soy sauce, olive oil, mustard, brown sugar, garlic, and ground pepper. Whisk it together until they're thoroughly combined.
Pour the marinade over the steaks, turning the steaks once or twice to coat evenly with the marinade, then cover it with plastic wrap and let them marinade for at least 2-4 hours (or overnight for more flavor) in the refrigerator, turning it over to coat evenly.
When ready to cook, remove the steaks from the marinade. You can either grill them on a grill for about 8 minutes per side (depending on your preference of doneness) or cook them on high heat on a cast iron skillet for about 6-8 minutes on each side for medium-rare (10 minutes on each side for well done) and remember to keep your eyes on the steak.
Before cutting the steaks, let them rest for the 6-10 minutes.
Once they are ready to cut, slice them up and plate them with your favorite sides and enjoy!
Vegan: Use seitan, portobello mushrooms, tofu or your favorite veggies as substitute.
